Getting closer to Across the Sea of Stars this summer
[info]vortexofchaos

TNT has talked it over, and we're willing to run Across the Sea of Stars this summer. You know - the sprawling ten hour, 25 player Tale-Telling Universe-spanning science fiction LARP that rocked Intercons F and I.

We can't do it alone, though. Specifically, we need a big open space to run it in. Who can we talk to about the Levin Ballroom at Usdan? Are there any other possibilities that won't cost us even more money than we're already going to have to spend to bring this game to you? Who is the person who can find us the space we need?

As usual, there's a bit more over on my journal. I'd appreciate it you'd put your comments over there, for sanity's sake.

I've been talking to a lot of different LARP people about
Across the Sea of Stars of late, and some people have said they'd like to play. Now, I'm not promising anything, but I'd like to gauge interest. Across the Sea of Stars is a ten hour Tale telling LARP for 25 players. I know it's probably a stupid question, but would there be enough interest to fill the game if I tried to run it late in the summer?

How would you, Boston-area LARPers, feel about a summer event of some kind? There are a bunch of game-runners, Paranoid & Crotchety ([info]wired_lizard's and my troupe) included, who'd be interested in running games over the summer. What do you think? Any dates people are likely to prefer or have a difficult time with? How large an event would you be up for? Single games? A day-long event (probably two games back-to-back)? A weekend?

If you could comment on my journal rather than here, for consolidation's sake, that'd be awesome!

That was a blast; I signed up completely on a whim, and almost canceled because I had other obligations Saturday night, but in the end I just decided to juggle and keep insane deadlines/schedules.

I am glad I did; Last Night in Jesriah was amazing, The Stand was good fun despite my zombie inclinations, and Dance of Flame and Shadow was interesting (I usually play the other side of the Camarilla/Sabbat line in the campaign LARP I'm in).

Thanks, everyone! Also? Say hi. :-)

Had no time for proper costuming for Festival this year... figured I'd check if anyone has any pieces they'd be willing to loan me...

In particular I'm looking for:

1) Fox ears. (Friday Evening)
2) Big floofy musketeer style hat with feather and the like. (Friday evening)
3) Anything appropriate for the classic French Legionnaire soldier look(aka, the blue coat/red pants with white bits uniform) (figure this one in particular is a long shot). (Saturday Afternoon)

I'm excited for Festival this weekend! One detail I could really use to borrow is a black cloak with a hood for Friday night. Does anyone have one they could lend me? Thanks!

Festival consuite - volunteers needed

I apologize in advance if you're on my f-list and [info]brandeislarp and [info]interconlarp; you're going to get this multiple times.

Are you going to Larpercalia - Festival of the LARPs 2011?

Do you like food?

Do you have hands?

Then YOU can help with consuite!

Every year, we try to put together a basic consuite at Festival. It's not fancy like the consuite of Intercons past, but there is soda, chips, and coffee and donuts in the mornings. This is facilitated in part by my own deep pockets (or something), but also by donations and volunteers.

In the past I've asked volunteers to bring a couple of bottles of soda, a couple of bags of chips, and/or coffee and donuts. Coolers are also nice, for ice in which to store the sodas. The soda/snack volunteers are typically asked to bring their items Friday night, and the coffee/donuts volunteers bring theirs on Saturday or Sunday, as assigned. It is not at all an odious assignment.

Could you commit to bringing one of these things to Festival? Or could you offer a small donation of $5 or $10 to offset the cost of food?

I'm sure you could. You might try to run, but you'll only die tired.

Hello, lovely larp community!

My name is Phoebe Roberts. As you may know, this next April 8th-10th I will be chairing LARPERCALIA: Festival of the Larps 2011, Brandeis’s very own free larp convention. This will be our sixth annual event, and we want every year to keep getting better. In an effort to get the schedule set down early, I hereby invite anyone who’s interested to submit bids for games they would like to run at our Festival this spring. From now until January we will be accepting bids, and hope to be able to present a relatively finalized con schedule by the beginning of that month.

If you’re interested in running something, please fill out the bid form on the Festival website. If you have any questions about Festival, whether you’d like to run something or just what it’s like to attend, don’t hesitate to e-mail me and I’d be happy to answer anything you want to know.

Here’s to another great Festival, and looking forward to seeing you all in April!

Your loving con chair,

Phoebe

Shura Di will be a Martial Arts based event - a day dedicated to honor, respect, chivalry, kindness, fun, learning and much more. We will have dozens of events for people to experience throughout the day, from battling each other to training sessions and much more.

This event is open to the public, any and all foam fighting groups/organizations, individual foam fighters, Martial Artists, families, children of all ages and really... anyone who shares a passion for all types of combat sports. Whether you have been playing a foam fighting sport for years, have never played or are somewhere in between, you are welcome at our event. If you come with an open mind, you will have a great time with us Shura Di!

I would like to extend a special invitation to all members of Amtgard, Dagorhir, Belegarth, Barbarian Battles, WOTS & Nero. You all will find the rule set to be very easy to adapt to, I'm sure. So, please join us if you can. :D

Here are some of the things your paid admission into Shura Di will get you… free parking, free water and soda (as much as you can drink throughout the day), 20% off all foam weapons (day of the event only), thousands of dollars worth of prizes to give away, dozens of battles taking place throughout the day, tournaments for you to prove your worth and win prizes as well, activities for the whole family to enjoy throughout the day and lots more (details will be reviled as the date grows closer). That’s right; you get all of this and more, for only $10!

For anyone who lives out of state and yet comes to Shura Di, as a “Thank You” for already spending so much money in coming, you will receive half off your day’s admission. It's not much, but it's the least we can do. :D

If you have any questions or for volunteer opportunities, please contact MyShuraDi@gmail.com. You can also check out our site www.TheSleepingSamurai.com, for more information and for frequent updates. More information can also be found in the Notes section of our Facebook or the Blog section of our Myspace. Thank you all for your support in this, our first event. We hope to see you all out there!
